Sayana has also quoted those sutras while commenting. Thus, Sayana is perfectly right in that he has followed pre-existing tradition and pramana.
Also after Sri Bannanje Acharya spoke (in this video), there was the speech of Mahamahopadhyaya Sri R.Krishnamurti Sastrigal (Veda Bhashya Ratna, etc. ) who gave appropriate reply to Bannanje's tirade on Sayanacharya. Another scholar of Purva Mimamsa, Chivvurri Srirama Sarma from Andhra who was also present there during the event. If we get the recording of this reply we can hear that too.
